Ihram for Women

Regarding ihram, apart from the following points, women are treated similarly to men:

  1. They can wear all types of stitched clothing, gloves, socks, and shoes. They can cover their heads, but their faces remain uncovered.
  2. They do not raise their voices while reciting the talbiyah.
  3. They do not perform remel during Tawaf (clipping or shortening of hair) and do not perform Hervele during Sa’y.
  4. They do not shave their heads completely, only trim their hair.
  5. In crowded situations, they perform istilam (kissing) of the Hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone) without touching it. They avoid mingling with the crowd of men. They do not pray near the Maqam Ibrahim during crowded times.
  6. If they have their period or postpartum bleeding and are unable to perform the farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada) or delay the visitation Tawaf (Tawaf al-Ziyarah), they are not required to offer a sacrifice. (Lubab al-Ma’ani Commentary, p. 78)
