Tenim is a location situated 6 km away from the Sacred Mosque, and it is within the boundaries of the sacred precincts from the direction of Medina. Hz. Aisha (RA) performed Hajj alongside the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) during the Farewell Pilgrimage. Due to her menstrual cycle, she couldn’t perform Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) at that time. When they were about to return to Medina, she expressed her regret to the Prophet (SAW), saying, “O Messenger of Allah! People return after performing both Hajj and Umrah, while I remain deprived of performing Umrah.“
In response, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) instructed her and her brother Abdurrahman (RA) to proceed to Tenim to perform an Umrah. There, they entered into the state of Ihram (the sacred state for pilgrimage) and performed a two-unit Ihram prayer. The mosque that was built at this location to commemorate this event is called “Masjid al-Aisha,” named after Hz. Aisha.
