Construction of the Medina Railway Station began in 1900, and by 1908, it had connected Medina to Istanbul through the Hejaz Railway. Following the withdrawal of the Ottoman Empire from the region after World War I, the Hejaz Railway fell into disuse.
Today, efforts are being made to revive the Hejaz Railway, and the station building in Medina, along with the adjacent Ottoman-style mosque, still stands as the final stop of the revitalized railway.
