Preparations for Hajj

Spiritual Preparations

Respected Hajj pilgrims, first and foremost, you need to understand that the journey of Hajj is not a shopping or leisure trip but a journey of worship. Remember that every step you take, every difficulty and hardship you face will bring rewards and may erase your sins.

Hajj, which is obligatory for every capable Muslim, is a challenging act of worship. Therefore, our first recommendation is for you to increase your patience.

"You will embark on a long journey in scorching heat, sharing the same space with people from various backgrounds... Hence, the key is to remain highly patient—patience, patience, patience."

We must always maintain cleanliness, good manners, politeness, forgiveness, soft-spoken language, a friendly demeanor, and humility.

Be Careful: Respected Hajj pilgrims, be careful not to offend or hurt the feelings of others, because offending others is more dangerous and sinful in the eyes of Allah SWT than destroying the Kaaba itself.

Be Aware: In this journey, the Devil and one’s desires will tempt you even more. May Allah SWT protect us from all dangers and the evil of both these creatures. Amin.

Respected Hajj pilgrims, we will visit the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Therefore, we must prepare ourselves thoroughly, both externally and internally. It would be excellent to start by performing the Salat Tasbih, repenting, seeking forgiveness, and sending blessings (Salawat).

A Prophetic Saying: "Do not become a burden to others!" Therefore, let us strive not to burden others during flights, bus trips, and accommodation. Instead, we should help one another, especially older people.

When in the Holy Land, let us not overindulge in shopping and forget the essence of worship. We can shop anytime in our home countries, but we may not have the opportunity to visit the Kaaba, Raudhah, and the Prophet’s Mosque again.

May Allah SWT always be our Helper… Amin.

Material Preparations

Never forget the saying: “Hajj is a test of endurance.“ Here is a practical checklist for your journey:

  1. Health Check: Undergo a health check-up with a family doctor or the nearest medical facility. Bring necessary medications with you.
  2. Vaccination: Make sure to get vaccinated for meningitis as required.
  3. Luggage Tagging: Write your name, address, and phone number on all your bags and suitcases.
  4. Read the Guidebook: Read the Hajj and Umrah guidebook provided by your company several times to familiarize yourself with the rituals.
  5. Pack Essentials: Bring along the Quran and the guidebooks for easy reference during your worship.
  6. Carry Identification: Always have your official identification card with you.
  7. Baggage Allowance: Your checked luggage weight should not exceed 30 kg. Your hand luggage should not exceed 8 kg.
  8. Personal Funds: Carry enough money for your personal needs. You can exchange currency at designated exchange offices.
  9. Be Punctual: Be present at the airport at the specified time to avoid any delays for you and the group.
  10. Important Documents: Never put your passport and other critical documents in your checked suitcase. Keep them in your hand luggage.
  11. Baggage Process: Hand over your suitcase at the designated drop-off area and keep your baggage tag and flight ticket safely in your hand luggage.
  12. Local Authority: Remember that from the airport until you reach your hotel, all controls are managed by the Saudi Arabian government.
  13. Stay with Your Group: Follow the instructions of your group leader and do not separate from your group for your safety and convenience.
  14. Practice Patience: Be prepared for possible delays at airports due to local regulations. This is a part of the test of Hajj.
